What are the Days in Dioceses?
Days in Dioceses (DND) are 100 days away! The DND are an encounter of young people from around the world that precedes World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023. This meeting will take place from 26 to 31 July 2023, in 17 dioceses in continental Portugal and the islands. The Dioceses of Lisbon, Santarém and Setúbal will assume a different role, being the Host Dioceses for the week of WYD Lisbon 2023.
Over the next few weeks, we will learn more about each of the 17 Dioceses that will host this initiative that precedes WYD Lisbon 2023: Algarve; Angra; Aveiro; Beja; Braga; Bragança-Miranda; Coimbra; Évora; Funchal; Guarda; Lamego; Leiria-Fátima; Portalegre-Castelo Branco; Porto; Viana do Castelo; Vila Real and Viseu (see the full map here).
The main goal of the Days in the Dioceses is to integrate young people from all over the world into the parish communities of the various dioceses of the country, giving them a better knowledge of the region that welcomes them, the local Church and its specific features. For several days, the pilgrims will stay in family homes, parish or public facilities, so that they can have a real experience of Church, evangelisation and mission.
The DND is an opportunity for pilgrims to get to know the richness of the Church in the host country and to promote the encounter and sharing of cultural and religious richness. For the host, it is an opportunity to show the cultural, gastronomic and religious richness to young people coming from all over the world.
To complement this experience, a programme with five pillars is being prepared: welcome, discovery, mission, culture and sending forth. There have been several meetings and gatherings between the Portuguese dioceses in order to provide an unforgettable experience for all those coming from abroad (find out more here).
There are also several groups of pilgrims who have already said "Yes" and who will participate in the Days in Dioceses all over the country. For those groups of pilgrims still wanting to take part in the Days in Dioceses they can contact the Diocesan Organising Committees (COD) and/or write to diasnadiocese@lisboa2023.org for more information on organisation and registration.
