Pilgrim Packages
The participation of pilgrims in the WYD is free, which means that each person can participate freely in the central events (Opening Mass, Welcome Ceremony, Via Crucis, Vigil and Missioning Mass). For non-registered pilgrims, specific sectors will be available. However, for logistical and security reasons, as well as to help cover organizational costs, all interested parties are invited to register for the WYD and pay the participation fee – access to registration services here.
For the WYD Lisbon 2023, three different types of registration are foreseen, with different packages, which differs from each other by the duration of stay in Lisbon and the content, meeting the different needs of the pilgrim groups.
All Packages includes the pilgrim’s kit, personal accident insurance and free transportation during the WYD period. Some of these Packages also include the accommodation and/or the meals.
The value of the corresponding contributions was fixed in euros.

Accommodation
Participants
who choose a package with accommodation included, will be accommodated
in families houses, pavilions, schools, gyms, among other collective
spaces. Each participant must bring a sleeping bag and a mattress
(travel). The groups of participants who choose for a package without
Accommodation, must have to organize themselves in the way that best
suits for their needs.
On the evening from the 5th to the 6th of
August 2023, after the Vigil, all pilgrims will spend the night outdoors
at the place of celebration. Also here, each participant must bring a
sleeping bag and a mat with them.
Food
The
feeding points will be a mixed system, i.e. WYD Lisbon 2023’s own
areas, restaurants or other feeding points of external partners can be
used. To allow for a balanced use of all feeding points, a system is
being developed that will allow pilgrims to eat at a certain place
and/or pick up their food regardless of the package they have chosen.
Transportation
The
city of Lisbon and its surroundings have a good public transport
system, which will be a fundamental part of travel during WYD. We are
working with mobility partners to provide a value proposition for all
pilgrims, so that the use of all modes of transport is easy and takes
into account peak usage, the most environmentally sustainable options
and the capacity of the city.
Insurance
All
Registration Packages include personal accident insurance during the
WYD period. Opportunely, we will disclose more information.
Pilgrim’s Kit
The Pilgrim’s Kit will include official products WYD Lisbon 2023 and will take into account the model of all WYD.
We
are working to make the WYD Lisbon 2023 experience easier for everyone.
Whenever possible, “Pilgrim Kits” will be distributed in the host
parishes where pilgrims are staying. For those who do not opt to
register with accommodation included, or who arrive in Lisbon at the
last minute, their pilgrim kits can be collected from the Pilgrims’
Welcome Centre.
Opportunely, we will disclose more information.
In addition to the participation contributions indicated above, during the registration process, the WYD pilgrims are invited to contribute to the Solidarity Fund with a voluntary donation of at least 10 euros per person, on which the goal is to cover the costs of the participation of young people from less favoured countries, allowing them to participate in the meeting, expanding on this way, the international dimension of the WYD.
The Portuguese groups will pay these donations to the Local Organizing Committee of Lisbon; the groups from other countries will pay the donations to the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life.Any remaining amounts from this Fund will subsequently be allocated to other WYD related projects.
More information can be found in the Regulation for Participation Contributions available on the registration platform.
The group leader will have to choose
whether to pay in a single instalment or in two instalments:
− The option to pay in one
instalment is only available if the status of the group's registration is
'complete', since no changes can be made to the group's data after payment. Any
reduction in force on the date of payment will be applied to the full amount of
the participation contribution owed by the group.
− If
payment is made in two instalments, the group leader can set the percentage of
the total amount of the participation contribution that he/she intends to pay
with the first instalment, from a minimum of 25% up to a maximum of 75%. The
first instalment may be paid even before the group's registration has been
completed (“draft” status); the second instalment may only be paid when the
registration is in “complete” status. After the payment of the second
instalment, the payment of the participation contribution will be considered
complete and it will no longer be possible to modify the group data. In both
the first and second instalments, any reduction in force on the date of actual
payment will be automatically applied to the participation contribution.
Once the
number of instalments has been set, the group leader must indicate whether
he/she wishes to make the payment by credit card or by bank transfer:
− In the
case of payment by credit card (Visa or Mastercard), the leader must fill in
the corresponding fields in the payment interface and then click on the 'Pay'
button in order to complete the procedure. Credit card payments, if successful,
will be automatically validated. The leader will be able to pay the participation
contribution and the donation to the Solidarity Fund in a single transaction.
The amount will be automatically split between the two purposes (split
payment). However, it will always be possible to make a donation to the
Solidarity Fund via the donation facility always available in the group's
reserved area.
− In the
case of payment by bank transfer, the group leader will find in their reserved
area the details of a specific “disposable” IBAN to be used exclusively for the
payment in question. The leader will have the option of paying the
participation contribution and the donation to the Solidarity Fund in a single
bank transfer. The amount will be automatically divided between the two
purposes (split payment). However, it will always be possible to make a
donation to the Solidarity Fund via the donation facility always available in
the group’s reserved area. If successful, the payment will be validated as soon
as the amount is available in the destination account. For international
transfers outside the euro zone, it will also be necessary to use the BIC/SWIFT
code: BCOMPTPL. In the latter case, it may be necessary to wait up to seven
days for the payment status to be updated.
More information in the regulation for participation contributions available on the registration platform.
Participation contributions already paid will not be refunded. The only exception is for the pilgrims who got refused entry visas to Portugal. In these cases, the person responsible for the group will have to gather proof of visa rejection for all members of their group who for this reason cannot participate and send them to the Local Organizing Committee of Lisbon. The Committee will be able to return up to 90% of the amount paid by these pilgrims (the bank charges of the operation will be discounted). The refund will be paid via a single wire transfer to the current account indicated by the group leader. Contributions cannot be returned directly to individual group members. Refunds will be made within 90 days after the end of the WYD.
For questions about refunds or if after 30 days the proof of payment is still not available in the reserved area, the group leader can contact the Local Organizing Committee of Lisbon at the following address reembolso@lisboa2023.org.
