Screening of the documentary "The Letter"
In celebration of eight years since the Encyclical Laudato Si' by Pope Francis, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023 has screened the documentary "The Letter".
From 21 to 28 May 2023, another edition of Laudato Si' Week is taking place to commemorate the anniversary of the publication of Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si'. This year, the film "The Letter", which was released in October last year that tells the story of several frontline environmental leaders' trips to Rome to discuss the Laudato Si' Encyclical with Pope Francis, was the main resource for the week's events. The WYD Lisbon 2023 headquarters also joined the initiative with a screening of the film for all volunteers and collaborators on the afternoon of 24 May.
WYD Lisbon 2023 embraced sustainability as one of the main focuses of its action, meeting the concerns of young people "with the care for our common home, which goes beyond caring for the environment," said Antonio Salcedo, representative for the Laudato Si' Movement in Portugal.
This is an encyclical in which Pope Francis invites everyone to care for our common home. In this sense, "we must respond to one of the greatest challenges facing the planet", he said. "Any and every opportunity for formation and deepening is welcome," Antonio stressed.
For WYD Lisbon 2023, there are three objectives and focuses within the theme of sustainability: financial sustainability, with the appropriate use of materials and resources; social sustainability, working on universal brotherhood; and environmental sustainability, by caring and reducing the impact that this meeting will have on the environment.
