Music
The Music Team is made up of professional musicians responsible for choosing, preparing, and performing the repertoire for the five events during the week of WYD Lisbon 2023: the Opening Mass, Welcome Ceremony, Way of the Cross, Vigil, and Missioning Mass. We work in close collaboration with the Artistic Direction of these events.

Choir
The WYD Choir is made up of 200 choir members from every diocese in the country. They were chosen after several auditions that began in 2021. Some of these choir members already participated in the recording of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Theme Song " Há Pressa no Ar" in August 2020. Rehearsals began in July 2022.
Orchestra
The WYD Orchestra is made up of about 100 guest musicians, professionals from the various orchestras and philharmonic groups around the country, senior students from music schools and conservatories, and university students.
“Mãos que Cantam” (Hands that Sing)
During the performance of the whole repertoire, this choir that will translate all the songs into Portuguese Sign Language in real time.
Our mission is directly related to choosing and rehearsing the repertoire for the five Central Events. In close collaboration with the Artistic Direction and spirituality, the music was chosen according to each specific moment of each event. Underlying what we have worked on over the years of preparation and during the period of WYD Lisbon 2023, the team sought to:
- Establish a balance between the new (the musical repertoire created for WYD Lisbon 2023) and the traditional (the repertoire that is part of Portuguese liturgical and cultural tradition, as well as the musical heritage of previous WYDs);
- Seeking, among the different musical languages, a sense of coherence between the various celebrations and creating musical bridges that favor musical eclecticism.
