Reconciliation park
Location and timetable
1, 3 and 4 August - 9h00-16h00
2 August - 9h00-22h00
In Reconciliation Park, young people are called to experience God's love and mercy in the 150 confessionals available, through the sacrament of Reconciliation. We want them, reconciled, to feel called to set out in haste, like Mary, to reach out to others. In each confessional, and in different languages, a priest will be available to welcome and listen to the young pilgrims, inviting them to experience God's love and mercy through the sacrament of Reconciliation.
The Reconciliation Park has 150 confessionals, built by prisoners from the prisons of Coimbra, Paços de Ferreira and Porto. For this, a collaboration protocol was established between the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) and the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 Foundation. The confessionals were built with sustainability and inclusion in mind, using recycled material, which will be used again after World Youth Day Lisbon 2023. In addition, they were also designed with accessibility for people with reduced mobility in mind, with the bench being removable to allow wheelchairs to circulate and the base having a maximum of three centimetres.
During the opening hours of the Reconciliation Park priests of different nationalities will be distributed, by the confessionals available, to welcome the pilgrims who wish to be reconciled. Priests will be available for confessions in the 5 official languages of the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 – Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian – throughout the opening hours of the Reconciliation Park. Confession in other languages will also be available. Consult schedules:
Notice for priests: Upon arrival at the Reconciliation Park, priests must go to the check-in tent, located on the right side of the restaurants.
