Colina do Encontro

It will be on the "Colina do Encontro", located in Parque Eduardo VII, that the Opening Mass, the Welcome and the Way of the Cross will take place - general program of the WYD Lisbon 2023 week here.

The name "Colina do Encontro" evokes the encounter with the Living Christ, the first goal of the World Youth Day. Then, it evokes the experience of the young Church in Lisbon, which wants to go out to meet everyone. It also evokes the encounter between Mary and Elizabeth, a true intergenerational encounter, marked by joy.

"Colina do Encontro" also recalls the meeting of Pope Saint John Paul II, the much revered founder of WYD, with Lisbon in 1982, in Parque Eduardo VII. It will be in this same location that young people will meet Pope Francis for the first time at WYD Lisbon 2023.

Regulation of the Spaces* of WYD Lisbon 2023

*Campo da Graça, Colina do Encontro and space for the Volunteer encounter with the Pope (events with access control)

People present in these venues must adopt a correct posture, taking into account the religious character of the event and not threaten the safety of other participants, and must take into account the following rules:

1. The entry of the items listed on the attachment is forbiden.
2. The Security Forces present at the venues, duly uniformed and accredited by the organization, may:
   a. Verify people's identification in order to confirm their identity;
   b. As part of the police assessment, and in case of suspicion, check the contents of any luggage, clothing or equipment, other than those listed in point 1, and may conduct security searches;
   c. Give safety instructions to people causing public disorder, damage, or inappropriate behavior. In the event of persistence, such people may be required to leave the premises.
3. In case of rude non-compliance with the recommendations of the volunteers or the signs of the venue, the organization does not assume responsibility for any physical or material damage.
