WYD Lisbon 2023 needs you! Do you want to give your yes
Lisbon is preparing to host what will be the biggest encounter of young people in the world with the Pope. Since its first edition, in 1986, the World Youth Day has been built with the collaboration of thousands of volunteers.
Therefore, to make this meeting possible, the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 needs young people like you, who get up from the sofa, following the invitation of Pope Francis, to offer their time, their talents and energy in building an unique experience.
Do you want to help Pope Francis?
Being a Volunteer at WYD Lisbon 2023 is a transformative challenge, humanly and spiritually. With joy, the volunteers offer their time to make this meeting possible. They will be the face of the WYD Lisbon 2023 for the pilgrims that arrive to Portugal: a face of security, welcome and joy.
More than talents or skills, the important thing is to have an open heart and be available to let yourself be surprised by the Pope, the Church and the living Christ.
Do you accept this challenge?
We need 20 to 30 thousand volunteers available between the 23rd of July and the 7th of August 2023, so all help is little: the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 needs you! You will have the unique opportunity to experience a multicultural environment, in one of the largest gatherings of young people in the world, a meeting of young people for young people. The experience of service, learning, companionship and friendships, the acquisition of skills, the spirit of mission and dedication and, above all, joy, are some of the benefits of this volunteer work.
Embrace the invitation of Pope Francis: In volunteering, every service is important, even the simplest one. And its ultimate meaning is to be open to the presence of Jesus; it is the experience of love that, coming from Above, sets out and fills with joy. The World Youth Day volunteer is not just an “agent”, but is always an evangelizer, because the Church exists and acts to evangelize (WYD Kraków 2016).
Like Mary who got up and left in a hurry, the Pope expects the same “Yes” from you.
The World Youth Day needs you.

Today (December 5) we celebrate International Volunteer Day and Pope Francis has sent a special message to World Youth Day volunteers. Volunteering is the “intervention strength”, since “volunteering has that perseverance of getting things forward”. Furthermore, Pope Francis describes volunteering work as “a grace of God”, calling young people to “embrace it head on”.
