Where did the little shepherds of Fatima live?
During 1917, Our Lady appeared at Fatima to three little shepherds: Lucia Santos, Francisco and Jacinta Marto. Lucia was Francisco and Jacinta's cousin and the three of them spent their time in the countryside, playing and tending sheep. The three children were born and lived in Aljustrel, about two kilometres from Fatima, where Our Lady eventually visited them.
Before the apparitions of Our Lady to the three young Shepherds, an angel appeared to them three times, which prepared them and was also an invitation to prayer and sacrifice, of which the Little Shepherds became an example.
The second apparition of the angel took place in the yard of Sister Lucia's house, in Poço do Arneio, where the three cousins used to spend their time. Our Lady also visited the little Shepherds in the home of Francisco and Jacinta Marto.
It was in this house that Francisco and Jacinta were born and lived, in a family of about ten members and, some years later, the place where Francisco died. It was also in Sister Lucia's house that the first interrogations of the three Little Shepherds took place, after they had made known the apparitions of Our Lady. In 1981, Lucia offered her house to the Shrine of Fatima, which only took possession of it in 1986.
The house of the Little Shepherds of Fatima is visited by more than 300 thousand pilgrims from all over the world, who seek to come closer to the reality of these three children. For those who visit both the house of the two brothers and the house of Lucia, it is still possible to see intact objects of the three Little Shepherds.
