Pope Francis has responded sensitively to the letter from Edna, a young Portuguese woman with a terminal illness. In the letter, the girl mentioned her great desire to meet Pope Francis and to participate in World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023. However, she said, "for health reasons I will not be able to physically accompany him on World Youth Day".

In response to the letter, the Holy Father replied: "Thank you for your tenderness and the peace you have in your heart,". Pope Francis also assured to accompany her "on this journey" through prayer: "I pray for you and with you".
