Pilgrims with reduced mobility: WYD is for you!
World Youth Day (WYD) is designed for everyone's full participation. That is why there is a place in the Colina do Encontro for those with reduced mobility. For them, WYD has prepared a welcoming environment.
According to Josenilson Araújo, a Brazilian volunteer assigned to take care of these pilgrims, the service he provides is a concrete gesture of love, the best expression of volunteering, acting for those who cannot give back.
"This experience at WYD Lisbon is different from the others in which I was able to help, now being directly connected to the most vulnerable who need help for a simple adjustment of the chair, drink water or ask to be lifted to see the whole stage or extension of the park. In this, we see a contagious joy, even from those who do not speak, but are smiling, waving and exciting everyone," Araújo expresses.
Among the faith testimonies from pilgrims accompanying WYD from this location, José Escobar, a Spaniard from Seville, does not hesitate to say that he feels good and observes everything very well organised for pilgrims with reduced mobility. From the speech of inclusion in the Church, he felt inspired to participate in WYD and will treasure this thrilling experience, living, singing and praying with people from different countries.
