One month away from WYD
We are one month away from the beginning of the World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023! Already 313,000 pilgrims from 151 countries have completed their registration. Spain (58,531 registered people) is the country with the most pilgrims registered. It is followed by Italy (53,803), France (41,055), Portugal (32,771) and the United States of America (14,435).
Regarding accommodation, 70% of the 313,000 pilgrims will need a house during the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023. It has been identified 7.138 families available to host the young pilgrims in the Dioceses of Reception (Lisbon, Santarém and Setúbal). Of the 472.926 overnight accommodation places identified, 24.198 are with host families.
The WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation has already hired the supply of almost three million meals, since 90% of the registered pilgrims have requested food support, that is 289.000 pilgrims at the moment.
With registration completed, there are also 22.282 volunteers from 143 countries, out of a total of 32.717 young people who have started the registration process. There are also 500 volunteers exclusively from the area of Health, who will provide first aid to all pilgrims during the week of the meeting.
There are also 737 Bishops already registered for WYD Lisbon 2023, and 29 of whom are Cardinals. There are also 2.600 priests registered to administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the Reconciliation Park. Confessions will be held in the five official languages of the meeting: Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian.
As for the accreditation process for media professionals, 2.069 people have already been accredited.
As WYD Lisbon 2023 draws nearer, 10.000 vestments are being produced for the priests, bishops and hosts for the Eucharist who will participate in the largest gathering of young people from around the world with the Pope.
