Encountering God’s Love during WYD Way of Cross
Partaking in the Way of Cross together with Pope Francis was a profound experience, allowing pilgrims to find God’s love for themselves and those around them.
Helen, a 24-year-old pilgrim from Indonesia, shared how the Way of Cross is a transformative lesson. “It’s really hard for me to love someone, I get annoyed pretty quickly. And the Way of Cross reminds me of God’s love for me and gives me a reason to love others.”
Reflecting on her past, Helen’s life wasn’t always marked by positivity. Before she found solace in her faith, she struggled with self-hatred and had difficulties accepting herself. It was through discovering God’s love, finding a prayer group and joining the local community in her hometown that she eventually felt peace with own-self. Today she is confident enough to say: “I’m worthy, despite what people say about me. I’m loved. I'm the beloved daughter of God.”
Helen believes that the world needs more faithful and devoted youth. During the Way of Cross she was praying for the youth worldwide, hoping that they will embrace a living faith and that more young people will come to God.
